Professional Background

A Chicago native, Dr. Lauren Jacobsen completed her Bachelor of Science in sunny Arizona where she continued on to earn her doctorate in Dental Medicine. Not willing to trade out the sunshine and warmth for Midwest winters, Dr. Jacobsen moved to downtown Austin and has called it home ever since.

Outside of her dental suite, Dr. Lauren Jacobsen enjoys running along Lady bird Lake and hopes to one day run a marathon. She stays true to her hometown pride by watching her beloved Chicago Bears.

After experiencing dental trauma as a child, Dr. Jacobsen was inspired to help others in the same way that her dentist helped her, in a caring, safe, and shame-free manner.

Growing up, Dr. Jacobsen interned in the office of a neighbor who managed her own dental practice. It was there that she not only learned about dentistry but about how to create the best possible patient experience. After completing her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona, Dr. Jacobsen earned her Doctorate of Medicine in Dentistry from the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Jacobsen started Toothbar because she saw a demand in the community for comprehensive care from the “shoulders up.” She lives and works downtown, which allows her to easily relate to and address the needs of her clientele.

She’s very active in the Austin dental community and runs her own study club with other dentists who focus on putting the patient first. This group ensures that they are knowledgeable about the best products and treatments on the market.

  I can’t recommend Toothbar and Dr. Danielle Gibbons highly enough! I primarily see her for routine cleanings, exams, and X-rays, but I have also had a filling, professional whitening, and Botox for my TMJ. Dr. Gibbons is extremely knowledgeable and has such a warm demeanor and wonderful bedside manner. She always thoroughly explains the treatment plan, answers my many questions, and never makes me feel rushed. The Botox provided significant relief for my TMJ, and I was also very pleased with my whitening results. I was especially anxious about getting a filling because a previous filling elsewhere severely aggravated my TMJ due to how the local block was performed, leaving me unable to open my jaw normally for several days. Dr. Gibbons listened carefully to my concerns, used a different approach for the nerve block, and recommended nitrous oxide to help with my anxiety. Everything went incredibly smoothly, without any recurrence of those issues. Thankfully, I have not needed extensive dental care, but my husband has had several major dental issues and has spent much more time at Toothbar. Through both of our experiences, we know Dr. Gibbons is someone we can truly trust. The entire team is knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely kind. They have made excellent recommendations for electric toothbrushes and toothpaste, and I love the little details like being sent home with Cocofloss and a travel toothbrush. The office is beautiful and comfortable, parking is validated, and the complimentary cold brew, Nespresso, and sparkling water are always appreciated! For a period of time, Toothbar was out of network for me, but I valued the care so much that I continued coming and paying the out-of-network rates. The front desk was wonderful about providing clear estimates and helping me submit everything for reimbursement. Thankfully, I’m now back in network, but my decision to continue coming says a lot about the quality of care Toothbar provides. I’m very grateful to have found Dr. Gibbons and her team!

  I just got cosmetic bonding here and I love my teeth! Dr Barclay took her time with me, was extremely attentive, paid attention to detail, and made me feel super comfortable! Her assistant, Ricardo, was just as important in this process! He walked me through what would happen, gave me a pillow and blanket during the procedure, and made me feel completely at ease.   n absolutely incredible experience! I am so impressed with their state-of-the-art screening. Between the X-rays, 3D imaging, and scans, I was able to see the full structure of my bones, the topography of my teeth, and a complete model of my mouth. The team identified my needs, recommended an amazing treatment plan, and truly prioritized patient care. Brittany went above and beyond in explaining everything, including the fascinating connection between mouth and gum health, gut health, and mental health—something no dentist has ever discussed with me in all my years of care! This wasn't just a basic cleaning; it felt like seeing a true specialist for oral health focused on preventative, diagnostic, and holistic care. I am so thankful they provided such an integrated view of my overall well-being. I don't write many reviews, so taking the time to write this truly speaks to how wonderful this practice is.   I had the privilege of having Ricardo assist me today, and he made what I expected to be a stressful dental visit into a truly pleasant experience. He carefully fitted my mouth guards, explaining every step with patience. I also needed impressions made for whitening trays, and I had been dreading that process. Ricardo took his time, made sure I was comfortable, and everything went so smoothly that I had no issues at all. Even better, my custom trays were ready the very same day! Ricardo is incredibly kind, patient, and understanding. His genuine care made all the difference. If you're fortunate enough to have him as part of your dental care, you're in excellent hands.   I had a routine cleaning and assessment at Toothbar, and it was hands-down the best experience I've had at a dentist. Lexy the hygienist was amazing—incredibly thorough but completely pain-free. Thank you to Brittany (please don’t hurt me with the needle next cleaning if I spelled the Brittany wrong) for making me feel comfortable and for the cleaning. Thank you also to Dr. Gibbons for her expertise and clear explanation on what all I needed done or should consider in order to maintain a healthy mouth and bright smile.   I had such a great experience at Toothbar today. I went in for an emergency appointment after dealing with really bad sensitivity in my front teeth, and after not getting many answers from another dentist in East Austin, I was honestly pretty stressed. Toothbar got me in same day and immediately made me feel taken care of. Everyone was so kind and welcoming from the second I walked in. Check in was quick, the office is super nice, and they even gave me a blanket and TV while I waited which made it feel way less “dentist office” and way more relaxing. But the biggest shoutout goes to Dr. Andrea Bakke. She was AMAZING. So thorough, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. She took the time to explain everything, rule out different possibilities, and gave me more helpful information than I’ve gotten anywhere else about what could actually be causing this issue. I finally felt like someone was really listening and trying to get to the root of the problem instead of rushing me out the door. She also gave me a referral and guidance for the condition she suspects I may have, which honestly saved me a ton of time and frustration. I left feeling relieved, informed, and actually optimistic. Hands down the best dental experience I’ve ever had. Highly recommend Toothbar and Dr. Andrea Bakke. I’ll definitely be coming back and sending friends and family here too.

  It was my first visit today, and I’d absolutely recommend this place. The front desk staff were both friendly and welcoming, and I was called back quickly with hardly any wait. My dental hygienist was incredibly kind, made me feel comfortable right away, and kept things relaxed the whole time. They even offer a blanket and a neck warmer, which is such a nice touch because who wants to be cold in the dentist chair? Both the hygienist and the dentist took the time to explain anything that needed attention and clearly walked me through what to expect moving forward. Knowledgeable, kind, and results oriented. Dental techs - Selinda - are friendly, focused, and show attention to detail and client care. Dentists - Dr. Gibbons - are always kind while being direct about what needs to be done and what isn’t worth worrying about. Clearly a company with a good culture.   Nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Jacobsen and Toothbar so far- and I've been coming here for 5 years. Facilities are great- new with modern technology and always clean. They have TVs in each station with headphones so you can watch Netflix during your cleaning and procedures- it makes a difference! They also have weighted blankets and pillows so you are comfortable. The lobby also features sparkling water, cold brew on tap, and espresso pods- too bad Im never kept waiting long at this practice! They are great at sticking to appointment times. They also offer 2 hours of free parking validation which Ive never gone over during a visit. My first experience was with Invisalign. I had done 18 months of Invisalign with another dentist and was not happy with the final result. Dr.Jacobsen helped me fix my bite and smile with an additional round of retainers AND was able to get my insurance to cover the fix-it treatment! It was amazing! Cleanings are always painless, and recently had my first cavity filling here (boo) but it was incredibly painless. I also like how they had identified problem areas in prior visits but didn't drill - I was able to correct my flossing and add in a fluoride toothpaste and not have to get any fillings. Overall have been super happy coming here!
